Divya and Tejal Pandey, who founded Waat Eet Ees in May this year, have worked closely with Warli artists to develop contemporary Bollywood and yoga-themed umbrellas, and Bidri earrings with smileys
They met through common friends a few years ago and in May they sat for a brainstorming session about doing something in the field of Indian handicrafts. “Tejal is a professional photographer, while I am an MBA graduate with experience as a research analyst,” says Divya Pandey, a resident of Mulund.

They have developed two distinct products — umbrella with Warli art prints and Bidri earrings. “Warli artists stick to traditional motifs and we wanted to create something contemporary, more urbane using this artform. We created Bollywood and yoga themed designed and worked with Warli artistes to develop the final product,” says Divya.
The Bidri work, on the other hand, is a specialty from Karnataka. “The base is made of zinc and copper ore on which work of pure silver inlay is done,” explains Divya, adding that they also work with artists from Goa and Tamil Nadu.
The duo is working on more products slated for release in the next couple of months. “So far, we have worked with Warli and Bidri, but we’ll introduce a lot more soon,” Divya promises. Watch this space, is all we can say.
