It&rsquo;s hard to set any expectations on a tablet that is priced at just Rs 5,999. But, with the Simmtronics XPAD X722, these thoughts will tease the mind. At first glance, we notice the strong build the moment we hold the X722 . And we are tempted to drop it on the floor to test our gut feeling. But is it more than that? Let&rsquo;s find out. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jul/28F136831.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 298px; " /> The tablet uses a 7-inch TFT LCD screen offering a resolution of 800 x 444 with a pixel density of 120 dpi. It&rsquo;s too low as you can see the pixels even from a typical viewing distance of 25 cm, but, at this price we can&rsquo;t ask for more. However, we feel a better viewing angle could have helped; because the current one makes it difficult to play motion sensor games like Temple Run. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jul/28F136827_2.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 255px; " /> Pics/Datta Kumbhar Browsing is simple and easier, though the poor pixel density makes it unfit for desktop viewing of web pages. We, however, were satisfied with the video playback including 720p movies. Here, the Cortex A8 processor (based on ARM v7) and Mali 400 GPU seem to work fine. We also tested it on games like Temple Run and Arcane Legends, and had no problem whatsoever. However, we were highly disappointed with the front and rear camera. The X722 uses Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, which is a little too outdated at this point of time, but looking at the internal RAM (512 MB DDR3) and memory (2GB), Jelly Bean would have had made it too slow. Also, like most other tabs, the X722 is no better in terms of internal storage. The manual says 4GB of internal memory, but overall, one gets just 2 GB of storage space and 500MB of ROM. The XPAD offers WiFi and 2G calling facility with support for GPRS Mobile data connection. Unfortunately, 3G mobile data connection is available only through a dongle, which means no video calling -- unless one uses Skype or Google Hangout. Luckily, though, it has WiFi Hotspot and Bluetooth. Lastly, the 3500mAH battery seemed to be doing fine and lasts for up to four hours of browsing-- one of the benefits of 2G, though it takes forever to recharge using a USB. So, it&rsquo;s a good buy at this price, but before making up one&rsquo;s mind, do take a look at at the Micromax P362 tablet as well.
