I don't know what is troubling my daughter

Updated on: 25 May,2012 06:25 AM IST  |
Dear Diana |

Dear Diana, I am a single mother of two. My son is a doctor and settled abroad. My daughter is also studying medicine.

I don't know what is troubling my daughter

The reason I’m writing to you is that she has changed a lot since she joined medical college. Her exams are going on and she doesn’t seem to care a bit. On the other hand, she tries to keep herself occupied with everything except her books. This is not how she has been all these years. She was always a brilliant student and being a top ranker, we expect a lot from her this year too. But I’ve observed that something is eating her from inside. She doesn’t want to share it with me. And I used to naively believe that I was her best friend.

Dear Sudha,
It is obvious that something is bothering your daughter ever since she started attending medical school. Was she really keen to pursue medicine or was it because her brother is also a doctor, she had to follow his footsteps? Or were you keen that she take up medicine? If not then something has transpired ever since she joined the course. You may consider her as your best friend, but does she share the same sentiments? It does not appear to be. Try and ask her why she is behaving in such a peculiar way. Is it because of the new college and unfamiliar environment? Or else ask her friends about it. May be she feels there is something to hide from you.u00a0
