Pad up and get on a history bike ride, then wind down over a pint and narratives from the past

Did you know that the Colaba causeway was actually on water?" asks an enthusiastic Chartered Accountant Sharad Shah who founded Carvan Trips, an adventure travel company born out of his love for nature, travel and adventure, and the sheer boredom of corporate life. They have conducted three cycling trips in the city so far and all have been a huge hit. "I wouldn't call it a tour because it is interactive and everyone contributes with their tales, either during the trip or during the post-trip drinking sessions," he adds.

On a late Sunday afternoon, the two-hour Evening Heritage Ride Ending with BEER! starting from Colaba towards Gateway of India, seems like one is breezing through old London. Each of these buildings and structures has a story to tell and cycling through the lanes allows some time to soak in the culture. Most participants are locals who come for the love of cycling and to meet like-minded people, share stories, and learn about heritage. "Cycling is one of the best ways to explore these colonial heritage structures that are a heady mix of beauty, history and nostalgia. This stretch is so rich in history and exhilarating stories that even we learn something new every time we go riding," says Shah.

All you need to know is basic cycling and need to be medically fit to cover a distance of roughly 10 km. The epic ride ends with a chilled beer in a bar at a heritage restaurant. "This is where most anecdotes are shared by the participants. And then, their accounts get blended with ours, making for a rich tapestry of stories and an extremely memorable experience" says Shah.
