Baking schools in the city are growing by the dozen, but a new kitchen studio in South Mumbai literally hopes to take the cake with its novel approach to pastry and cake making. Wisk by Cakesmiths, located in the heart of Kala Ghoda, which started full-fledged professional baking courses in May this year, is the latest offering for those wanting to hone their skills in the baking industry.
Vrinda Jatia, a passionate baker and the brain behind Wisk, says that initially, the place was born out of the need to create a market for Cakesmiths products. "But then we realised there was a lack of knowledge about baking skills and techniques. There is only so much you can mimic from YouTube. So, we thought of opening our own kitchen studio to give people institute-level education, but in a more casual setting."
They offer a range of courses. The certified master courses in pastries, breads and chocolates include exhaustive modules, designed for those wanting to pursue baking professionally. The recreational classes for breads, sweet treats and desserts comprise interactive sessions for home cooks, passionate bakers and kids. There are also the food media and dietetic courses for those looking at developing their food businesses. And, you can stroll into class, light. "You only need a pen, notebook, and a love for baking," says Jatia.
