On a rainy day, hop on to the newly-opened Eat Deli.Cafe for a variety of light snacks and sweet treats, offered in an aesthetically and interestingly interiored joint

Eat well

We have to admit that when a friend mentioned about a new place called Eat Deli.Cafe, it took us few minutes to get over the name. Clearly, the owners didn’t want any confusion about what the place offers.

We dropped by on a Monday evening and were surprised to see the café — bang in the middle of a bustling foodie haven in Bandra — almost full. Great start.

Moroccan Carrot And Goat Cheese Burger is delicious and almost like a mini meal

The first thing that struck us was the optimum utilisation of space. While the main seating area was in the basement, the wooden staircase leading to the lower level also offered seating, which not only looked good, but was also a smart solution to solve space constraints. Impressed, we opted to seat ourselves on these steps.

Eat Deli.Café’s menu covers breakfast, lunch and dinner with options including soups, salads, burgers and sandwiches. After much deliberation, we ordered a BLT Sandwich (R410), Moroccan Carrot And Goat Cheese Burger (R370), Pan Seared Vietnamese Bassa (R450) and a Three Layer Chocolate
Cake (R240).

Famished, we went against norm and started with dessert that reached our table first. One bite into the triple-decker cake with layers of milk, dark and white chocolate and we noticed that something was amiss. While the chocolate-y taste was intact, a certain sponginess was lacking.

However, when the rest of our order arrived (which took a while) we stopped nitpicking and concentrated on the task at hand. While the BLT sandwich, made from bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and bread was wolfed down, the burger was a vegetarian’s delight. With goat cheese, moderately spicy carrots and a crisp patty between sesame seeds buns, the burger flavoured with a spread made from green olives was a satiating meal in itself. The potato wedges that came as part of the dish were crispy and served as a great accompaniment.

Finally, the tender basa, served with steamed veggies, cheesy couscous and a dash of orange butter, melted in the mouth.

It’s safe to say, Eat made us eat a lot.
