Pain du Jour, a bakery service in Oshiwara sprinkles happiness for Andheri residents
Almond Brioche, Green Apple and Camembert buns, Bacon and Honey Mustard buns
These days Oshiwara is caught in the whiff of baked dough. Pain du Jour (French: bread of the day), a new bakery service delivers French breakfast delicacies from Oshiwara to Seven Bungalows in Andheri (W). When we dialed the place, it wasn’t reverted initially but during a call back, we were told that they’d deliver delicious goodies within a day’s notice.

We were ready to let the dough roll out: Pain au Chocolat et Orange (Orange and Chocolate Croissant, Rs 95), Pain de Tradition (French Country Bread, Rs 50), Tresse D’Amande (Almond Brioche, Rs 100), a Bacon et Moutarde au Meil (Bacon and Honey Mustard Buns, Rs 70) and a Verte Pomme et Camembert (Green Apples and Camembert Cheese buns, Rs 75). While we texted the 23-year-old Neha Mahendra, the one-(wo)man army who was busy prepping the oven at Oshiwara, we anticipated a delightful breakfast as the last section from the menu, Treats from Wonderland seemed very exciting. The Mad Hatter is clearly hungry!
This lovely postcard was our bill. Possibly it’s an imagining of the Mad Hatter’s tea party from Alice in Wonderland.
After a 45-minute delay, the goodies arrived. Given that the state elections were going on last Wednesday, it must be an exception. The thoughtful packaging and a bill as a postcard were warm touches to the entire package. The Bacon and Honey Mustard plus the Green Apple buns were love at first sight. Neha ensures that her labour of love is free of chemicals, preservatives, added gluten and emulsifiers, another postcard revealed. After heating the quartets (as per recommendation) of the said buns, we went weak in the knees with the soft Camembert cheese buns. The green apples are also soft yet don’t cut in with their sharp citric twang.
The French Country Bread’s crust was just right while the Pain au Chocolat et Orange was heaven
Those who love their piggies, would love the dotted mustard buns and, of course, the nuggets of bacon. Discovering them is a joy. The Almond Brioche was perfectly braided. Its toasted almonds packed in a scrumptious bite. The picture-perfect French Country Bread was a good testimony to the baker’s skills as this was unlike the rest of the order in terms of toughness and crust.
Saving the best for the last, the Pain au Chocolat et Orange was flaky, buttery, and crumbling on touch. The darkness of the chocolate finds a lovely contrast in the juicy bits of orange. This is richness defined. Though Pain du Jour is the most convenient and delicious bakery for breaking bread in the morning, reaching the imaginative baker is a little tough. Besides, the menu doesn’t mention the prices. We suggest dropping in a text to ensure you have your fair share of dough delights on demand.
