You know they mean business when the owner of Bandra's new health food cafe arrives for a tasting straight after a session at the gym. Restaurateur Suren Joshi, the man behind Pali Village Cafe wants to promote clean eating, a mantra he lives by, at I Think Fitness Cafe (ITFC). We can't help but smirk at the irony that the location housed a doughnut chain before.

The cafe serves as a gastronomic extension to his chain of gyms by the same name. Joshi tells us that he believes in eating clean and staying fit, and was keen to start a cafe that promotes the thought. The menu has been designed by chef consultant Moina Oberoi, who specialises in designing healthy meals, and chef Gracian De Souza.

Bowled over
Oberoi feels that health food is rich in essential nutrients, and does not necessarily comprise only dishes that are low in calories. ITFC concentrates on including protein in several dishes, and every ingredient has a reason for being there.

Eggplant and Noodle

You can pick from among breakfast bowls, smoothies named and designed after different colours of the rainbow (choose from ice, organic cow milk, almond milk or kefir yoghurt), appetisers, mains and coffees. Guests can sit either in the al fresco section or indoors, where some natural sunlight plays up beautifully against barren walls.

Amaranth Porridge

From their breakfast or Happy Bowls section, we try the Amaranth Porridge (Rs 225) and Coconut Chia Bowl (Rs 225). A hint of cinnamon enhances the natural flavours of amaranth, the orange segments offer a burst of tang, and the caramelised walnuts add crunch. It's a wholesome start. The Coconut Chia Bowl is a colourful mix of watermelon and muskmelon topped over coconut, jaggery and chia pudding with a sprinkle of seeds. Each bowl can serve two people.

Go green
Those who enjoy greens in their salads should call for The Baby (Rs 275), a mix of microgreens with a dressing of lime and paprika, and baby beets, feta and orange. For a good portion of protein, try the Millet Steak Salad (Rs 300) - tenderloin served on a bed of pearl and foxtail millet, chickpeas and gojiberry in a coriander honey dressing. Another favourite is the Eggplant and Noodle (Rs 450), where silken miso eggplant complements sesame soba noodles in a light teriyaki sauce. For a lighter soirée, try their rice paper wraps. Giving us company through our meal is the Green Smoothie (Rs 200), a delicious blend of matcha, moringa and banana.

So, the next time you're yearning for wholesome, appetising food that does wonders to your Insta feed while giving you a healthy high, swing by ITFC.
