Ever thought of taking a bite of your beer? Well, now you can, for an American chef has created what could be called the ideal food for those who love booze - fried beer.

Mark Zabel, inventor of deep-fried Texas treats including the chocolate-covered, strawberry waffle ball and jalapeno corndog shrimp, wanted to invent something that would blow away the competition at the statewide cook-offs.

"We will be 'officially' presenting fried beer to the judges at the Big Tex competition on September 6, 2010," the New York Daily News quoted Zabel as writing on the company's website.

He says he is aiming to take home the trophy at the State Fair of Texas on September 26.

Zabel said he is currently using Guinness but might switch to Shiner Bock or a pale ale like Sierra Nevada, reports Jacksonville.com.

The beer itself is fried inside a pretzel-like pocket.

"By using our patent pending process, we are able to place beer inside a salty pretzel-like dough, and deep fry it. When you take a bite, beer pours out of the inside pocket of dough," said Zabel.

There is a patent pending on the process that Zabel claims took three years of work and research.

However, these boozy bites are not for kids.

The Texas Alcoholic Commission ruled that one must be 21 or older to purchase the fried fare.
