Mamatiffin is Mamagoto’s latest offering a multi-cuisine, exotic packaged meal service at a fairly affordable rate. We tried out three of their ‘tiffins’ and while overall we were impressed with both the look as well as the taste of the dishes, some items disappointed
Time-strapped Mumbaikars have a number of options to choose from when it comes to quick lunch boxes. Many restaurants and home chefs have ventured into this lucrative market, where they offer you varied selections for your “tiffin break”, whether at home or office.

Thia-Thai curry
The latest to join this bandwagon is Mamagoto with a line of Mamatiffin options that lets you choose your combination of dishes from a soup or appetiser, a main course and a complimentary mocktail. We decided to try some of the dishes from the Chambers of Shaolin (Chinese), The Siam Box (Thai), and The Straits (Indo-Malay).
Indo-Malay rice
For our Chambers of Shaolin box, we opted for the honey chicken with bell peppers, which was slightly salty; the veg hakka noodles; and the chicken in black bean sauce.
For the Thai tiffinbox The Siam Box we chose the waterchestnut spring rolls, that were slightly on the bland side; lamb in Massaman curry (the best bet; flavourful and tasty, as usual) with a portion of steamed rice. You could also go with the vegetables in Thai green curry in this section.
The Straits the tiffinboxes offering a selection of Indonesian and Malay cuisine had the popular Mamagoto goreng, something the restaurant never goes wrong with. The Asian summer salad was a burst of full-bodied flavours pieces of mango and lettuce coated in a sweet and spicy sauce that literally burst on the palate.
A must try, this. We also tried the Java grilled fish from this selection. But this seemed to have been made in a hurry herbs had not penetrated the fish, which tasted dry and bland in effect.
All in all, the tiffin boxes are innovative and sure to enliven the lunch break, especially if you have little time to spare for food on a busy workday. It will pep you up, yet not sit heavy on your stomach.
Mamatiffin is available on weekdays between 12 pm and 6 pm, with the price ranging from Rs329 to Rs 499 (plus taxes), depending on your choice of mains: vegetarian, chicken/egg, lamb or fish.
