There is nothing artsy about the ambiance and décor of Art House, a new multi-cuisine restaurant in Chembur’s Hotel Fern Residency. The continental fare, however, might tempt us to do an encore, to sample the other cuisines

Standing behind the popular Acres Club in Chembur, The Art House isn’t the easiest to locate, unless you’re from the neighbourhood. When we stopped by for dinner on a weekend, the place was packed with patrons. We felt they could have been resident guests of the hotel (inside which it is located), who might have possibly opted for the expansive spread at the buffet section. The restaurant has a lunch buffet priced at R399 plus taxes and a dinner buffet at R499 per taxes that looked quite tempting.

When we first came across the name of this restaurant, we imagined a quaint café kind of ambiance or a place that celebrated art. None of the above held true as we scanned the place. The restaurant’s ambiance wasn’t worth talking about. The food, thankfully, didn’t disappoint.
Ham and Cheese Grilled Chicken with Fig Jus
From the multi-cuisine menu, we chose the Continental section and ordered the Potage Catherine (Rs 250). The rich creamy soup, was full of shrimps, mixed with fish stock, oregano and grated potato: perfect for the weather. Moving on to the salads, we chose a dish whose name we could barely pronounce; the Chicken Souvlaki with Tzatziki. Tzatziki, we were told is a yogurt-based traditional Greek sauce, which a lot of people may find tad bland; we, however, enjoyed it.
Next up, we chose the Ham and Cheese Grilled Chicken with Fig Jus (Rs 425). This perfectly grilled chicken, stuffed with chicken, ham and cheese, and topped with fig jus was delish. Our final order of the day, Parsley Crusted Basa with Dill Cream Sauce (Rs 425) helped us wrap things up rather nicely. We are certainly returning to this restaurant to sample the Chinese and Indian fare, and perhaps the tempting buffet as well. However, with the number of popular new joints opening in Chembur, we dearly hope that The Art House ups its game on the ambiance front.
