Every year June 26 is celebrated as National Coconut Day in the US. From Indian to Mexican -  the beloved fruit is a popular ingredient in many cuisines across the globe. Be it indulgent desserts or spicy curries, eateries across Mumbai are dishing out a wide range of coconut-based dishes, which should definitely be on your radar to try out this monsoon.

Malaysian comfort


The Fatty Bao serves an exhaustive pan-Asian menu and is known for popular comfort food like dim sums and ramen. The Via Malaysia Ramen is available can be enjoyed in the vegetarian (INR 495), chicken (INR 530), and seafood (INR 595) options. It has a refreshing aromatic coconut broth with kaffir lime leaves, chilli, garlic, lemongrass, galangal and basil. The chef’s special Malaysian Chicken Kapitan (INR 545), which is a thick and creamy curry with slow cooked chicken and candlenuts, is also recommended.

Pa PaYa is known for serving an eclectic pan-Asian menu featuring sushi, dim sum, Asian tapas, curries, and more. Among the chef’s specials is the Indonesian Lamb Rendang Curry (INR 845), a perfect blend of tropical aromatics chilies, coconut, and spices.  The spicy thick curry is served with roti parota and makes for a complete meal.

Sri Lankan flavour burst

A hidden gem in the heart of Bandra, Hoppumm serves delectable Sri Lankan fare. The underrated cuisine is known for sumptuous curries and Kothu dishes. Their Moilee, a thickened coconut milk curry, is worth trying if you prefer bold flavours. The Veg Moilee (INR 350) has loads of fresh veggies while the Prawn Moilee (INR 450) is cooked to perfection.

Thai and mild


Among the most popular Thai restaurants in the city, Nara serves an extensive menu with curries, stir fries, small plates, and much more. A must try here is their rich Massaman Curry, available in chicken (INR 840), lamb (INR 1010), and mock meat (INR 740) variants. The fusion dish with its ingredients coconut milk, galangal,lemongrass, cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves is a mild-flavoured Thai curry. The restaurant also offers a ton of Jain dishes which makes it ideal for those wanting to enjoy the cuisine keeping their choices in mind.

Burmese must-try

The go-to place for Burmese food in the city, Burma Burma serves mouth-watering vegetarian dishes. Their signature dish, Oh No Khowsuey (INR 520), is a fragrant and creamy coconut milk curry infused with lemongrass and tamarind, topped with diced Asian vegetable and is served with an array of toppings. The dish is accompanied by noodles of your choice, so you get to pick from hakka, whole wheat, udon, and rice noodles.
