You only have to look at the conflict taking place between Israel and Palestine to understand what a divisive place the world is right now. But human relationships would be a lot more harmonious if more of us took a leaf out of Atticus Finch’s book. He is the leading character in Harper Lee’s seminal book, To Kill a Mockingbird, who has represented a beacon of hope for racial tolerance and all-round decency ever since the novel was published in 1960.
