His brothers Amarram Hansaram Chaudhary (32), Kisanlal Hansaram Chaudhary (22), both from Ghorpadi, and cousin Bharat Chunnilal Chaudhari (31) from Nana Peth were arrested by Mundhwa police on Tuesday.
Police Inspector (PI) J S Pathan, in charge of Mundhwa police station, said, “Amarram and Kisanlal run the Mahalakshmi hardware shop in Mundhwa. Bhaiyyaram used to stay in Rajasthan and, at times, in Pune at his brothers’ house. He was an alcoholic and was unemployed.”
“Amarram and Kisanlal had doubts that Bhaiyyaram had stolen cash worth R50,000 from the shop. Furious, the duo called him up around 9 pm on Monday night and started beating him with an iron rod. He sustained injuries to his head and died on the spot,” PI Pathan said.
“The two then decided to dispose of his body in Khandala Ghat. They called their cousin Bharat to help them. They then arranged for a van around 11 pm, stuffed the dead body in a sack and stashed it inside the vehicle. They started for Khandala but were intercepted by the Lonavla police during a routine nakabandi operation,” PI Pathan said.
Police Inspector I S Patil, in charge of Lonavala police station, said, “The van was stopped for checking at around 12.45 am. One of the suspects was sitting on the sack in the van. When our team conducted a thorough check of the vehicle, the suspects revealed the crime. Accordingly they were taken in custody and were transferred to Mundhwa police station.”
The brothers have been arrested and booked under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
