A doctor running a private clinic in Sector-56 here, and a couple have been booked on the directive of a local court for the alleged illegal adoption of a newborn without following government procedures, the police said on Monday.

A case was registered under sections of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 at Sector-56 police station in Gurugram on Sunday evening.

It is also alleged that the police didn't register the case, misbehaved with the complainants and even put them in lockup illegally. Following this ill treatment by the police the complainants approached the court. Later the case was registered on the court's order.

According to the complainant woman, she was living in a consensual relationship with her partner in Sector-56. On becoming pregnant, she along with her partner went to Dr Monica Chaudhary's 'Get Well Clinic' in Sector-56.

The couple expressed their desire to give their newborn to an NGO after delivery.

At first the doctor refused to do this, but on the second visit she introduced them to another couple identified as Sarkar Kaushik and Garima Bhardwaj, who were willing to adopt the child.

In July 2019, the woman gave birth to a child. The other couple, Sarkar and Garima, took the child. The complainants asked the couple to complete all the adoption formalities but they stopped taking their calls after that.

After several calls went unanswered, the complainants decided to meet the couple but on reaching their house they found that it was locked.

They contacted the doctor who also refused to help them. The woman went to the police station seeking help where the policemen assured her of help but refuse to file an FIR.

She then approached the court and following the court's direction a case was registered against the couple as well as the doctor.

Gurugram police spokesperson, Subhash Bokan said, "A case has been registered against the trio and a probe is underway. The accused will be arrested soon."
