Narendra Tulsiram of Bronx had pleaded guilty in April last year to child pornography-related charges and was sentenced in Manhattan federal court yesterday by US District Judge J Paul Oetken.

In addition to the prison term, Oetken sentenced Tulsiram to a lifetime of supervised release and ordered that he registers as a sex offender.

"For five years, Narendra Tulsiram preyed on his minor victim sexually abusing and extorting her. (The) sentence ensures Tulsiram will pay for the innocence he stole and be prevented from harming others," US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara said in a statement.

According to documents filed in the case, Tulsiram sexually abused a minor from 2006 to September 2011. The abuse began when the victim was 13 years old.

The convict took sexually explicit photographs of his abuse of the minor girl and in November 2011, after the young girl resisted his requests for additional sexual encounters, sent them to her via e-mails with threats of sharing them with others including her family.

The threatening e-mails and obscene pictures of Tulsiram with the minor girl were found following a forensic analysis of his cell phone after his arrest.
