A 56-year-old anesthesiologist gave a heavy dose of anaesthetics to his daughter and wife, before killing himself at his Vile Parle residence. While the daughter was declared dead, the police said that his wife survived, as she was injected with a lower dose. She is currently being treated at Cooper Hospital.

The incident took place earlier this week. The doctor, identified only as Patil, was a resident of Prathana Samaj Society at Vile Parle East, where he lived with his 50-year-old wife and 30-year-old daughter.
According to initial investigations, the doctor had been unemployed during the pandemic, and was under financial strain. He had tried applying at many places for a job, but had failed.
A police officer said, “The doctor was also frustrated as he was unable to get his daughter married, despite many attempts. His wife had recently retired from a bank.”
On the night of the incident, the doctor told his unsuspecting family that he wanted to conduct routine tests as a precaution due to Covid-19, and would need their blood samples. He, however, ended up injecting heavy doses of an anaesthetic, before taking the shot himself.
The next day, when his wife woke up, she realised that her husband and daughter were dead. With the help of the neighbours, she informed the police about the incident. The father and daughter were declared dead on arrival.
The Vile Parle police are currently awaiting a post-mortem report. Further investigation is on.
