The Dindoshi police have booked a 21-year-old man for the second time for allegedly raping a minor girl in the past two years. The accused had been arrested in 2019 and was in jail until he walked out on parole during the pandemic. The police believe the two had an affair.

The girl’s mother had approached the police after she went missing in the first week of this month. The teen, who will turn 18 in four months, returned on January 11. Her mother then learnt that she had been kidnapped by the same man, said a police officer. A medical examination showed she was raped this time, too.
The accused and the survivor are from the same locality and apparently in a relationship, said sources. Other than the two instances of kidnapping, she had earlier gone missing on three occasions. It was only in December 2019 her mother first filed a police complaint after the girl remained missing for a week. The accused had allegedly driven her around, raped her and allowed her to go back.
The man had been arrested then, but was granted parole because of the COVID outbreak. He came back to the same locality and lured her again with his fake love talk, said the officer.
“We had first registered a kidnapping case. We upgraded it with POCSO charges after the girl returned and said that the same person was behind it. Considering that she has gone missing a few times, we have sent her to a shelter for the time being,” said the senior officer.
Under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), the youth will spend a minimum 10 years in jail if he is convicted by a court for the charges pressed against him, added the officer.
