Mumbai Crime Branch's Unit 11 on Friday nabbed a man who had been convicted in a murder and had jumped parole, the police said.

According to the police, the accused identified as Rahul Ashok Shardul, 40, was convicted for life imprisonment in a murder case and had absconded while on parole.

Rahul Ashok Shardul, a resident of Titwala West in Maharashtra Thane had been serving the sentence at Amravati Central Jail. However, following the grant of parole during the Covid-19 pandemic on July 27, 2021, Shardul failed to return to custody as mandated, an official said.

The case against Shardul was originally registered at Tilak Nagar Police Station in Mumbai, he said.

The official said that while acting on reliable information regarding him, a team from Unit 11, led by PI Ghone and comprising ASI Tarte, HC Keni, and HC Khatate, launched an operation to apprehend the absconding convict.

"He was nabbed from Thane district after using technical analysis and local resources. His location was traced to Bhoir Gaon in Titwala from where he was arrested,"  an official said.

Following a medical check-up, Shardul was handed over to the custody of Kalyan Taluka Police Station, Thane, for further legal proceedings, he said.
