Two civic staffers were held by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Mumbai for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from an NGO to clear bills, a Maharashtra ACB official said on Saturday, reported the PTI.

Satish Dagadkhair and Nitin Sable of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) L Ward had sought Rs 12,000 to clear a bill of Rs 84,000 from an RTI activist who runs an NGO, the official said, according to the PTI.

"The NGO had worked under the Swachh Mumbai Prabhodan Abhiyan. Dagadkhair and Sable were arrested in an ACB trap in Safedpul area of Sakinaka while accepting Rs 10,000. The two were charged under Prevention of Corruption Act and have been remanded in police custody for further probe," the official said, as per the PTI.

"We had worked in December as part of the cleanliness drive after our tender bid was accepted. However, the two officials were seeking bribes to clear our bill and harassing us," NGO functionary and complainant Vinod Sonkamble said, the news agency reported on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, a forest guard was nabbed by the ACB on Monday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a sand transporter in Palghar district of Maharashtra, an official said, the PTI had earlier reported.

The guard, identified as Bhushan Shevre, had intercepted a tractor trolley transporting illegally mined sand on forest land in Khodala on January 1. He had demanded Rs 1 lakh bribe for allowing access to the forest land and allegedly accepted Rs 30,000, the official said, as per a report by the PTI.

On Monday, Shevre was nabbed by ACB officials at the Forest office in Khodala while accepting Rs 30,000 from the complainant, he added.

Earlier this month, a man was nabbed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly seeking bribe from a firm over report submission for govt subsidy in Maharashtra's Nagpur, the officials said, reported the PTI.

According to the news agency, one person from a firm contracted to file an inspection report for units seeking subsidy under a Union government scheme was arrested in Nagpur on Friday for allegedly seeking and accepting a bribe, while the main accused is at large, an official said.
