The manager of UCO Bank, Vile Parle branch, recently found Rs 20 lakh short in their currency chest and the bank conducted an internal inquiry, following which two officers were found guilty. The bank also recovered Rs 10 lakh each from them.

One of the officers approached the Vile Parle police station. Following this, the police persuaded the bank to lodge an official complaint, however, they were reluctant. Finally, on January 20, Rajnikant Biswal, the bank manager, lodged an official complaint, post which the police started investigating the matter.
After retrieving the deleted CCTV footage, the cops managed to identify the accused. According to the police, accused Biren Bhupendra Vakhariya (34) worked with a private firm that used to take data entries from the said bank related to RBI instructions.
The accused had knowledge of cash chest operation. He stole Rs 20 lakh and deleted the CCTV recording of that particular period. After thorough interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. The police managed to recover Rs 9 lakh, out of stolen Rs 20 lakh.
The accused arrested and produced before a court and has been sent to judicial custody.
