Most parents would do anything to get their kids the best education possible. But Slumdog Millionaire star Rubina Ali's father believes the best for his daughter lies in her municipal school and not an international one.
Despite an NRI Samaritan offering to fund the nine-year-old's schooling at an international school, she will continue at Ashima Municipal School in Bandra, where she passed Std I with an A grade.

A R Vanoo from Doha, Qatar, was willing to fund Rubina's schooling in any part of the world, up to a doctorate. He had even offered to pay for her education at an IB (International Baccalaureate) school, known to charge steep fees. But Rubina's father Rafiq Qureshi had other ideas.
Rubina says
So, not surprisingly, Rubina insists she isn't too keen to go to the international school either. She said, "I don't want to change my school, because I will not have my friends there. I might not be comfortable there. My school is very nice and it is even close to my house."
Added Qureshi, "If we change our mind later, we can approach the NGO Anjuman Ithihad Muthaheed for funding. Vanoo had put us in touch with them for any help with Rubina's education."
Oh! For a house in Bandra
Meanwhile, Qureshi is looking for a real estate agent to get a house in Bandra before Rubina's school reopens. Their shanty in Garib Nagar, Bandra, was demolished on May 20 by Western Railway officials to free railway land of encroachments.
This came close on the heels of her co-star and fellow slum kid Azharuddin Mohammed losing his house in a BMC demolition drive.
Said Qureshi, "The day after our house was demolished I got a call from the Jai Ho trust, asking me to find an agent and get a house for which they will pay. I want a house in Bandra because my daughter's school is here.
Getting a house is my priority right now."
