'Kidnapped' over a little Gandhigiri

What was set out to be a routine assignment for me turned out to be quite a 'captivating' experience.

I had accompanied the members of Deshbhakti Andolan to the Charity Commissioner's office in Worli, as the office had not replied to an RTI application.

Members of Deshbhakti Andolan offered roses to officials at the Charity Commissioner's office in Worli yesterday.

The members of the NGO moved about the office courteously, and handed over red roses to the officials seated in the office.

I clicked a few pictures of the proceedings and as we set off to leave the office, some workers of the building union stopped us. They locked the iron grill gate from the outside and held us 'captive'.

They did not allow us to leave the premises till their 'demands' were met. The union members wanted me to delete the pictures that I had clicked during the Gandhigiri motion in the office.

When the NGO workers tried to exit the building, members of the workers' union locked the main gate and did not allow them to exit the premisesu00a0 until the photographers deleted the pictures taken inside

I refused to budge while they remainedadamant on holding us to 'ransom' till we gave in.

The drama continued for nearly 90 minutes before better sense prevailed and the workers backed off.

Now, have you ever heard a story where a person was held captive over Gandhigiri, and that too in Bapu's own land? It happens only in India.
