A 100-Year-old building collapsed at Dhobi Talao in the wee hours of Monday.

The fifth and fourth floors of the Ramchandra building situated opposite the GT Hospital collapsed owing to the weakening of the structure. However, no one was injured in the incident.

The incident occurred at 2.30 am on Monday following which three fire tenders and two ambulances rushed to spot and helped the residents of the building, and clearing of the debris took officials more than 12 hours.

There were around 10-12 people in the five-storeyed building at the time of the collapse, but fortunately they all escaped unhurt.

Residents allege the owner, Lakshmi Jatwani, a multimillionaire, who resides in Dubai, has been irresponsible with regards to repairs and maintenance of the building.

"Three years back, an entire slab of the building fell down, weakening the structure.

We conducted several meetings and even sent complaints to the manager of the building, but our pleas fell on
deaf ears," said Ismail Mandsaurwala, owner of a store in the building's compound. "My entire shop was destroyed when the slab fell and I had to shell out Rs 45,000 for the reconstruction and again this time I will have to spend from my own pocket," added 75-year-old V Asnani.

Echoing the same helplessness, Amit Sharma, a tenant, added, "I was born in the building, but owing to the risk of collapse have moved out. The landowner has not been responsible and as far as the BMC and MHADA is concerned, we do not trust them."
