While three have been arrested, the fourth suspect is absconding
Crimes against women continue relentlessly, with a fresh incident of gang rape reported in Borivli (W). The MHB police arrested three auto drivers for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in a parking lot on Monday. A fourth suspect is absconding. According to the police, the teenager stays alone in a rented room in Borivli. The prime accused Sonu Kamble (20), who stays in the same locality, was known to her prior to the crime.

Around 8.30 pm on Monday, the girl went to Gokul Hotel, a diner in the neighbourhood, to pick up dinner for home. She was waiting opposite Tukaram Omble Park for an auto rickshaw to head back home, when Kamble (20) walked towards her and told her he would drop her home. As she began following him thinking they were walking to his auto, he dragged her to a parking lot nearby and raped her inside a tempo. He then called his friends, three other auto drivers, to the spot and all of them took turns brutalising her.
The suspects were drunk at the time of the crime. The girl was shouting for help, but the lot was virtually deserted. A passerby heard her screams and alerted the assistant sub-inspector of MHB police station who was patrolling the area. The cop, along with the witness, went to the tempo and found Jayprakash Pal (22) forcing himself on the survivor. They nabbed him at the spot and he told them about another accused, Aslam Khan.
“We have arrested the three accused Sonu Kamble, Aslam Khan and Jayprakash Pal for raping the minor, while another unknown accused is absconding. All are auto drivers. We have booked them under sections of the IPC including 376 (d), 342, 506 (dealing with gang rape, criminal intimidation and wrongful confinement) — and of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012,” said senior inspector Suresh Kilje of MHB police station. The girl has been sent to the Dongri children’s rehabilitation centre, while all the accused were produced in court and sent to police custody till December 2, Kilje said.
