ATS will not press charges against NCB officer

Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is unlikely to pursue any action against three officials brought here for questioning in connection with the arrest of IPS officer Saji Mohan in a narcotics trafficking case.

The ATS was not likely to press any charges against Superintendent of the Narcotics Control Bureau (Chandigarh) Balwinder Kumar and Constables - Devendra Pal and Naveen Kumar - in the case, Additional Commissioner of Police (ATS) Param Bir Singh said here today.

The NCB would conduct further questioning of the trio and decide what action to take against them, he said.

The ATS had not found any evidence of their involvement in the smuggling of narcotics allegedly being carried out by Mohan, Singh said.

The two Jammu and Kashimir Constables were Mohan's security personnel while the Superintendent of NCB had worked under the IPS officer.

Mohan, a 1995 batch IPS officer of J&K cadre, is in police custody till February 7 after his arrest last month for allegedly smuggling heroin into the city.

The ATS had recovered 38 kg of heroin in the case.
