Chhota Rajan had assured the seven arrested accused that their families would be taken care of in the event they got arrested for shooting J Dey dead, police officials revealed.

Reportedly, Rajan had provided Rs 5 lakh in total to the accused and told them not to worry for their families in case they were caught.

Meanwhile, the police team will be visiting Nainital from where the accused had collected the revolver used in the shootout.

Satish Kalya had travelled to the hill station, as per Rajan's directions, to collect the murder weapon. Mumbai police have spoken to the officers concerned in Nainital and informed them about the weapon's transportation.

"A police team will go to Nainital for the inquiry," said Joint CP (Crime) Himanshu Roy. Police have said that 15 to 20 of Dey's e-mails maybe crucial for further investigation and are under scrutiny.

Also, five international calls made to Dey, which could have been from Rajan, are being traced. Cops are trying to verify the location that the call was made from and the caller's identity.

They have also got in touch with the tour operator who reportedly saw Dey meet a person during his UK trip in the week before he was gunned down. Police will show the photos to the operator to identify the person.

"We are collecting all the evidence from eyewitness and people the accused met while on their pilgrimage after the murder.

We have collected CCTV footage, forensic evidence, cars, bikes and the weapon used for the crime," said Roy.

Police say they do not necessarily need the motive to book the accused, as they have other evidence to corroborate their involvement.
