Paramount Airways from Chennai jetted to the bottom of the worst on-time performance list with a 16% cancellation (avg should be 1.7%)


It started off well. In May, Chennai-based Paramount Airways (PA) and Air India recorded the best and worst on-time performance 89 and 74.2 per cent respectively.

In June it changed. PA cancelled 16 per cent flights, way above the industry average of 1.75 per cent.


On the other hand, Air India, which had the most number of flight delays in May 2,651 of 9,605 domestic flights performed better with just 1.1 per cent cancellations. It recorded the least number of cancellations among full-fare airlines.



Fifteen per cent of PA flights were cancelled because of technical snags, while the remaining one per cent were due commercial reasons.

"Our aircraft had technical problems, which resulted in the cancellations," said a
PA spokesperson.

The airline, which has a fleet of six, largely operates from less busy airports in southern India.

The airline, which flies to cities, includingu00a0 Ahmedabad and Pune, willu00a0u00a0 start its services in Mumbai.

The total domestic passengers carried by the scheduled airlines during the second quarter of 2009 (between April and June) was 109.38 lakh as compared to 98.22 lakh between January and March.

"Overall, 1.8 per cent scheduled domestic departures were cancelled in June," informed a Ministry of Civil Aviation spokesperson.
