Amid the ongoing tussle to form the government in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena leader  Sanjay Raut on Friday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should approach them only if they agree to share the chief minister's post with the party.

"Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis should resign as the term of the existing assembly is ending, Raut told PTI. He added that the BJP should not misuse provision of "caretaker" government.

Meanwhile, a day after Shiv Sena MLAs were shifted to a hotel, Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray met the newly-elected party MLAs, ANI reported.

Aditya arrived late on Thursday night at Hotel Rangsharda, where the MLAs are lodged to prevent poaching attempts and left about 1 am on Friday.

The Worli MLA-elect has been projected as the next chief minister by party leaders. The MLAs will be staying at the hotel for the next two days that are considered very crucial for government formation as the term of the incumbent government ends today.

On Thursday, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray also told his MLAs very firmly that the issue wasn't about who would be the CM first in a rotational system but Fadnavis's statement that the Sena was never promised the CMO for two-and-a-half years.

However, some Sena leaders, who are averse to Fadnavis continuing in the top office in the alliance government, said it was too late for the CM to reach out to the Sena chief.
