Unwell: Gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli is under going treatment
at Jaslok hospital
"Gawli had undergone surgery for his sinus problem earlier. He also had asthma and complained of breathlessness. However, he has been kept under observation and is undergoing treatment," she added. S B Chaware, superintendent of Taloja Jail, where Gawli is serving his sentence, said, "As per the court order, Gawli was shifted from the jail to Jaslok Hospital. He has been undergoing treatment under the supervision of Jaslok Hospital's doctors for two years and spent most of last year in the prison hospital."
Dr Hemant Thacker, general physician, Jaslok hospital, said, "I examined him in the out- patient department in the afternoon. We are running lung function tests and will decide on a course of treatment when the results arrive."u00a0 Dr Thacker added that Gawli's condition was not critical. "Gawli has a history of asthma," he said.
Arrangements
Gawli has an air-conditioned single room on the 15th floor of the hospital, which also has a television. Sources in the hospital said the room costs around Rs 5,000 a day and Gawli prefers to stay in single AC rooms only.
Armed policemen and policemen in plainclothes attached to the local Gamdevi police have been posted around Gawli's room to avert any untoward incident. Gawli's daughter Geeta Gawli, who is also a corporator, refused to comment.
