Water conservation is the theme for civic body's 2010 calendar
The BMC is pulling out all stops to ensure the message of saving water reaches all Mumbaikars. This is evident in the civic body's 2010 calendar, which has water conservation as its theme.
Saudagar Jadhav, PRO, BMC, said, "The city is facing an acute water crisis and the situation may worsen in the coming year if we don't act fast.
This is why we decided on on this theme. Every page of the calendar carries messages advising people to use water wisely."
Weekly water cuts
Meanwhile, the BMC has decided to experiment with the 100 per cent zonal weekly water-cut formula from the third week of January.

The BMC has also undertaken other initiatives to tackle the water crisis.
These include cloud seeding, repairing old pipelines, digging new bore wells, setting up desalination plants and a water helpline, and using universal water meters.
50,000 copies of the calendar are printed every year.
Did you know?
In May 2009, the BMC's hydraulic department brought out a white paper, which stated that the civic body had not been able to meet the city's demand for water since the 1950s.
