At 9 pm, Devjani was travelling home from Zaveri Bazaar to Mahim with his grandfather and driver when a Maruti Esteem overtook his car and halted in front of them at Mughal Road, Mahim. Five men got out and started hitting the car's window glasses, bonnet and doors with choppers.

When the windows were shattered, the robbers threw chilli powder at Devjani, grabbed a bag containing the valuables and fled in the Esteem. Devjani was hurt on his hand by the chopper, while his grandfather sustained a minor injury on his finger in the mishap.

The Mahim police believe that the robbers had been following Devjani's car for a while.u00a0

"Devjani's driver managed to note down the Esteem's number and we have found that it was stolen from Goregaon last month. The car's owner had filed a complaint at Oshiwara police station. The robbers must have known that Devjani was carrying the valuables. We are trying to find the accused, as the victims have seen them," said Senior Inspector V Latpate of Mahim police station.

Meanwhile, Devjani who was in a shock after the incident said, "I am going through a tough time after the attack."
