The maid discovered Kakkar in a pool of blood around 8 am when she came to work. "Mrs Kakkar used to stay alone in her flat. I was shocked to see her lying in a pool of blood in her bedroom near the bed," says Kakkar's maid, Mary.
Later, with the help of a neighbour, the maid called the Colaba Police station and her husband who was out of station. Investigating officer Sunil Shivarkar says, "Kakkar must have fainted and hit the iron rod of her bed as she had a head injury. It is a clear case of an accidental death. So far we haven't received post mortem reports."
Residents of Pushpa Vihar Building say that Kakkar was under a great deal of stress. The building was undergoing renovation for two years and Kakkar had been the secretary for many years. "A few days ago our chairman died of a heart attack and since then the building renovation workload was on Kakkar's shoulders," says a resident.
Others reveal that she was quite active for her age. "She used to climb seven floors to her flat," said Kanta Kumble, another maid in the building.
Meanwhile, doctors were shell shocked on hearing the news. Dr Kersi Chavda, president of the Bombay Psychiatry Society, who had worked under Kakkar for a yearu00a0 said that she had a wonderful sense of humour.
Others remember her as au00a0 pleasant, soft-spoken woman. Dr Shubhangi Parkar, head of psychiatry at KEM Hospital who had recently attended a conference with Kakkar said that in spite of Kakkar's vast experience, she was very approachable.
