The matter came to light at 6.30 am, when a coolie (porter) entered the ladies compartment of a local train at platform no 3 and spotted an abandoned gunny bag.
Curious to see the jute sack, the coolie dared to open it and was surprised to find a woman inside.
He raised an alarm and rushed to the nearby Churchgate railway police and informed the matter.
The police reached the spot and found the woman to be in the age group of 25 to 30 year, with no other identification on her. The police even pressed the dog squad into service hoping to get some clue, but to no avail.
The body of the woman has been sent for an autopsy to State run GT hospital and only after the autopsy is performed the exact cause of death will be known.
"We have not identified the woman yet, but it is a clear case of murder. It seems that the assailants might have left the body either at the origin of the train early morning either at Borivili or Virar. We have called in a press conference and are hopeful that once the photograph of the deceased is flashed in the media, we may get clue," said Tukaram Chavan Chavan, Government Railway Police Commissioner
Meanwhile, the Churchgate railway police have registered a case of murder under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code, the matter is being investigated.
It may be recalled that recently the railway crime branch solved the mysterious murder of a pregnant woman whose body was found in a suitcase which was abandoned at Reay Road railway station.
With no major clue in hand the police detected the case with the arrest of the deceased husband and brother in law, who were from Mumbra.
