Anil was a resident of Sangeeta Apartment in Santacruz (West), and had his office in the ground floor of the building. On Saturday, Cherian received a call from his assistant Minal Gupta, who invited him to join her in her cousin Aishwarya’s birthday celebrations in Gorai.
Cherian accepted the invitation. According to the police, Cherian then went to the party at Fonseca Bungalow in Gorai. He stepped out for a while, but did not return to the party. His friends assumed that he had stayed back. But two days later, when his wife Shivani went to his office, she found that he was not there. His mobile phone too was switched off. While attempting to trace him, she learnt that Cherian had gone to Gorai to celebrate a birthday party.
Shivani then asked Minal of his whereabouts, who told her that Cherian had left the bungalow after a few drinks. After waiting for a day they approached the Gorai police station and filed a missing complaint. By evening, the police informed them that a corpse had been discovered in a well. Cherian’s wife Shivani then identified the body.
While Cherian was married to Shivani, they were separated, but kept in touch. The cops have recorded Minal’s statement, as well as that of all his friends who were present at the bungalow in Gorai. Cherian’s body has been sent for a postmortem and preliminary reports are awaited.
“We have noticed some injury marks on his legs, which indicate that he may have slipped and fallen inside the well. Prima facie it appears that the death was caused by drowning After primary investigations, we have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR),” said SPI Deepak Bagve from Gorai Police station. “We have requested for chemical analysis and diatom test,” said a forensic expert from Bhagwati Hospital on the condition of anonymity.u00a0
