It's that time of the year when the Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel will have their Body Mass Index (BMI) tested. Those with BMI index at 25 or below will be eligible for an incentive of Rs 250 per month. While those above the 25 mark will be ineligible, the underweight cops will still get the incentive.
However, those below 30 years of age are not part of the incentive scheme. The fitness regime was introduced three years back to keep a check on the fitness levels of cops. GRP officials are confident that most of the cops will be marked fit.
"If you go by last year's report, a majority of railway policemen will be found fit. Out of the 3,618 GRP personnel, around 1,968 were fit," said an official.
"The number of fit policemen will be higher this year. The number of fit policemen in GRP will be more than 70 per cent," the official added. GRP Commissioner AK Sharma said, "We give cops incentives and encourage them to maintain their fitness in various ways."
What's BMI?
The BMI or the Body Mass Index is a statistical measure of the weight of a person scaled according to his height. It is calculated as the individual's body weight divided by the square of their height.
