According to the police, the three men had drunk alcohol before the crime was committed, said a report in The Times of India.
Initially, the police were told that 28-year-old Sunil Nepali had died in an accident below the metro rail in Andheri but the post mortem confirmed that it was murder.
An officer from Sahar police station said that Nepali had a drinking session with his friends- 38-year-old Muthukumar Nadar, 22-year-old Anil Kamble and Arjun, all of whom are rag-pickers.
Senior Inspector Shashikant Mane said that after they were sloshed, Nadar and Kamble stepped out to buy more liquor while Nepali and Arjun stayed at home.
After the two friends left, Nepali ate the chicken curry which they had prepared early in the evening that day and dozed off. Later, when Nadar and Kamble returned, they were shocked to find the vessel empty.
Sub-inspector Anand Nagral said, "Nadar smashed Nepali's chest with a heavy stone while Kamble kept hitting him on the face."
An officer from Sahar police station said that they suspected that it was not an accidental fall as the victim's face was crushed on the side.
The police tracked down Arjun during the enquiry who had witnessed the crime. On the basis of information provided by Arjun and footage from cameras, the police nabbed Nadar and Kamble.
