You'lL agree that the incessant rains have been dampening lives: you mutter under your breath as you step into a puddle, cancel plans, blow dry damp clothes, or reach work late. We commiserate.

But here's news that could make you thank the rain gods every time the clouds break open. Thanks to the heavy downpours, the city, where water shortage is a perennial problem, will have enough to go around this year.

Water levels in the lakes, which were below-average just ten days ago, have risen considerably, after they accumulated water from the recent heavy showers.

This means that the city will not be revisited by a spectre from 2009, when dangerously low water levels compelled the BMC to impose a 30 per cent cut in water supplies across the city.

A BMC official said, "The current water level is sufficient to supply water for 75 days. With more rainfall expected in the next few days, the levels are expected to rise further."

The heavy showers continued yesterday, forcing railway workers

RV Sharma, deputy director of the Indian Meteorological Department, said, "More rain is expected in the coming days.

This will help the water level of the lakes to rise further, so Mumbaikars can enjoy sufficient water supply until the next rainy season.
