Hijack scare on Kingfisher flight

Airport authorities at Mumbai Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport went through anxious moments after the crew of IT 072 Kingfisher Hong Kong-Mumbai flight accidentally pressed the emergency hijack button.

Airport authorities at Mumbai Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport went through anxious moments after the crew of IT 072 Kingfisher Hong Kong-Mumbai flight accidentally pressed the emergency hijack button.


The hijack scare happened around 7.30 pm and the airport officials immediately declared an emergency situation at the airport. According to flight personnel, the crew pressed the button accidentally.


Kingfisher spokesperson, Prakash Mirpuri said, "This happened during a transition from one frequency to another. The pilot immediately got in touch with airport officials after the button was pressed and after the airport authorities realised that it was an error by the flight personnel, theu00a0plane wasu00a0cleared for landing."


"Also, any response triggers activated by such alerts can be de-escalated," said the official.

Passengers were safely deplaned, he added.
