Journalists go on a hunger strike demanding a CBI inquiry into J Dey's murder; senior advocate files a writ petition in the High Court demanding the same

The journalist fraternity continued to register its protest against the state government's non-committal attitude towards the probe of MiD DAY's editor (investigations) J Dey.
Yesterday, more than 100 journalists collected at the basement of the Marathi Patrakar Sangh building situated near Azad Maidan and took part in a hunger strike to denounce the government's refusal to hand over the probe to the CBI.

The hunger strike began at 9 am yesterday with members from 16 journalist associations. Many present at the hunger strike spoke their mind and provided additional suggestions to spread the protest nationwide.
Dharmendra Jore, a senior journalist, said, "We need to spread the message of our protest to every possible medium. The Internet should be used to reach out to a wider audience."
Talking about ways in which the protest could gather more steam, Press Club President Gurbir Singh said that editors of various papers and channels needed to take a hard stance against politicians and their netagiri.
"Editors should refuse to carry any political stories till the time the government pays heed to our demands."
At 4.30 pm yesterday, a condolence meeting was announced which was attended by senior journalists and editors. Aditya Sinha, editor-in-chief, DNA, said, "Dey's death is a huge loss for the entire journalist fraternity."
Court appeal
Meanwhile, VP Patil, a senior advocate filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court demanding for a CBI inquiry into the murder.

The case will come up for hearing at 11 am today. There will be no hunger strike today as members will be present at the court hearing, following which a decision will be taken on future action.
