Husband held after brother's complaint

A day after a 36-year-old woman leapt to her death from the 19th-floor of a Lokhandwala highrise after catching her husband in bed with an unknown woman at their house, the Samta Nagar police have arrested the husband, Mukesh Jha, on the charge of abetment to suicide.

Mamta Jha jumped off the 19th floor of her building and committed suicide following an altercation
with her husband in Kandivli

According to the police, Shankar, brother of the deceased, Mamta, came down to Mumbai from Ghaziabad and registered a complaint against his brother-in-law.

He told the police that Mamta had called him up several times in the past four months and complained to him of Mukesh's adultery. She said that she was fed up of her husband's ways.

"Mamta told me that she was helpless and did not know what to do. She said that when she requested her husband to stop bringing girls home, he harassed and assaulted her. But I consoled her saying that he would come around someday," stated Shankar in his complaint.

Anant Kenjele, senior police inspector of Kandivli police station, said that based on Shankar's complaint, they arrested Jha on the charge of abetment to suicide.

"We would now question Mukesh's parents, who stayed with the couple, to ascertain Shankar's claims. So far they have told us that they used to tell their son to mend his ways, but he would not listen to them," said Kenjele. The accused will be produced in the court today.
