IPL telecast rights: HC rejects Sony's plea

The Bombay High Court on Monday rejected the plea filed by Sony Television (now known as Multi Screen Media Pvt Ltd) against BCCI over telecast rights for Indian Premier League, paving the way for BCCI to deal with other broadcasters, with barely three weeks to go to the start of the second season.

Earlier this month, the Bombay High Court has restricted the IPL from discussing the broadcasting rights with any other company after broadcasting partner Sony took the organisers of the mega event to court for holding discussions with other channels.

BCCI, on March 15, had concluded a new contract for broadcast and other rights for the second season of IPL with World Sports Group (Mauritius), and terminated its earlier contract with Sony.
