The Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) for this flight was 10.35 am. During the touch down, the Boeing 737-800 twinjet’s rear tyre burst.
Airline and Air Traffic Control (ATC) officials were immediately alerted about the incident. The aircraft was carrying a total of 121 passengers.
“We could make out that something was wrong, since we felt some jerks during the hard landing. However, we were immediately deplaned and taken away from the aircraft, after which, the airline’s technical team got in to action,” said one of the passengers who did not wish to be named.
The aircraft was later parked at bay A3. Repercussions of the incident were seen on what was a busy Sunday, after the runway was shut for over 10 minutes for preliminary inspection.

Sources said they had to check whether any fragments of the tyre were strewn on the tarmac. The pieces could have proven fatal to any other aircraft landing or taking off from the runway. However in this case, the delays were adjusted later in the day.
Jet Airways spokesperson said in a statement, “Jet Airways flight 9W 412 from Bengaluru to Mumbai had a normal landing in Mumbai. After parking, routine inspection revealed some tyre fragmentation. All 121 guests were deplaned normally.”
