Kripa supporters threaten to derail CR function

Office-bearers of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) threatened to disrupt a flagging-off function at CST yesterday because the names of MRCC president Kripashankar Singh did not figure on the invite. They were also upset, as MP Eknath Gaikwad wasn't invited.

"Why didn't they invite Eknath Gaikwad? He is an MP from Dadar and the train passes through Dadar. Besides, if they invited Rajya Sabha MP Manohar Joshi from Mumbai, why did they not invite Rajiv Shukla, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP from Mumbai. I want to know the protocol for these functions, as it concerns public representatives of my party. However, the matter has been resolved as railway officials apologised to me for the oversight," said Ryeen.

Protocol

Central Railway CPRO Srinivas Mudgerikar said, "There was some misunderstanding. An invitation card had been delivered to Kripashankar Singh's office. Rajiv Shukla is a Rajya Sabha MP from Mumbai Suburban, while Eknath Gaikwad is also a Lok Sabha MP. This is why their names did not figure in the printed invitation card. The names on the ads and the printed invitation cards were in keeping with protocol."

Kripashankar Singh did attend the function eventually. Chief Minister Ashok Chavan flagged off the trains.
