According to a MHADA official, the lottery draw for all 3,863 flats would be conducted on May 19. Given the large number of applications, MHADA was supposed to conduct the draw over a period of two days.
Rang Sharda auditorium in Bandra has been booked by MHADA for May 19 lottery draw. Initially, there were thoughts within the housing body to opt for an open ground to manage the huge crowd that would be coming at the venue.
The procedure
Prior to the draw, the list of eligible applicants would be displayed on MHADA's website. Those applicants who have been listed as ineligible due to incomplete forms or any other mistakes - like not attaching the pay order along with the application form - wouldn't be a part of that list.
"A video shooting would be initiated to make the lottery process a transparent one," an official added. A Compact Disc (CD) of the entire lottery draw will also be available only if an RTI application for a copy is filed with the MHADA.
Categories having the highest number of flats would be scheduled first for the draw. Apparently, the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) will be the first to start, followed by the other categories.
MHADA received around Rs 1,380 crores in deposits from the 4,34,215 applications it received from the public for the sale of 3,863 tenements.
In one of the board meetings it was resolved that if the MHADA fails to come out with the lottery results by May end then interest would be paid from June onwards to all the applicants.
