Man who nailed corrupt cop booked for forgery

In an ironic twist, the complainant, who got sub inspector Vaibhav Patil from Malwani police station arrested for accepting a bribe on October 15, is now in the dock himself. He has been declared a wanted accused in a four-month-old cheating case registered in the same police station, and is reportedly absconding.

Salim Memon, an estate agent, had lodged a complaint against Patil for demanding a bribe of Rs 40,000 from him to allegedly suppress a civil complaint against him.

The case
Recently the cops discovered that a case of cheating is pending against Memon, and an FIR was filed last week in which he has been declared as one of the wanted accused.u00a0

In July, a Hotel owner had filed a complaint against Memon and two of his accomplices for forging documents of a MHADA flat worth Rs 15 lakh at Navjeevan Society in Malad West.

According to Zuber Shaikh, owner of Amas Hotel in Malad and a property investor, he had given a written application to the Malwani police on June 16, accusing Salim Memon, Zuber Memon and Farukh Inamdar of forgery.

In his application, Shaikh had also written that their vacant flat on plot number 12 in Navjeevan Society had been taken over by a woman named Naseema Bano, without their consent.

"The flat belongs to my cousin Yasar Riyaz Shaikh, who had purchased it a year ago. He had given me the power of attorney. However, in June, we discovered that Naseema had occupied our flat against a deposit of Rs 2.50 lakh. Later, we learnt that she had purchased the flat from Salim, who along with Zuber had forged the agreement bearing Yasar's signature. The agreement read that they had bought the flat from Yasar for Rs 2 lakh," said Shaikh.

When contacted, Abdul Rauf Shaikh, SPI of Malwani police station said that they had received the application, and it was only after conducting adequate inquiries, they have registered a case of cheating, threatening and forgery against Salim, Zuber and Farukh. "We arrested Farukh on Saturday. However, Salim and Zuber are at large," said Shaikh.
