“We have found 20 foreign liquor bottles, a diary that has documents with names of all those he has taken bribes from and Rs 80,000 cash in his house,” said Kishore Jadhav, head, ACB Mumbai. The ACB officials said they would be calling up the people mentioned in the diary and recording their statements as evidence in the case.
The expensive liquor was found at Chavan’s Borivli police quarters. He was due to retire after three months.
ACB is likely to book Chavan under Prohibition Act for keeping the liquor at his house without a valid license. He has already been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Chavan knew that the studio’s office was illegal and using that information he regularly took bribes from them. But this time, he wanted a bigger amount and that’s when the complainant approached the ACB officers in Worli and got him caught red-handed in a hotel in the IC Church area in Borivli.
