Mumbai: 500 fake PAN cards found under Bhayander creek

Just a day after the elections in the city, a resident of Bhayander (East) found close to 500 pan cards under the Rai creek bridge on Thursday morning.

Cops suspect that the pan cards, believed to be duplicates, were used for voting on Wednesday. Rai village resident, Rohit Suvarna found the pan cards under the creek while returning home. Before the water could wash away the cards, he picked them up and informed the police.

Senior inspector, Bhaskar Pukde of Bhayander police station, said, “The pan cards found are duplicates, as the size of the cards is bigger than the original. We are crosschecking the names and photos on the cards and investigating the case.”

Speaking to mid-day, Suvarna said, “On Thursday morning, while coming home I saw the pan cards under the creek. It seemed as though someone had thrown them in a hurry. I collected the cards and informed the police. The pan cards seem to be fake and might have been used for voting. Cops should cross-verify the names in the card with people.”

A local political party leader, on the condition of anonymity, said, “This is a political stunt by one of the parties to demand re-election. The workers themselves printed the pan cards and informed the police. They should be punished.”
