The deceased woman, Seemi Prasad, lived in a nearby building, and accused Kanaiya Singh lived on the fifth floor of Triveni Apartment. Now the Charkop police have found that the accused had also threatened the watchman of the society after allegedly killing Seemi. Police sources added that the deceased was not working in a call centre.
Damning footage
Singh was running a Chinese food stall outside Triveni Apartment at Charkop. Police said the deceased woman used to regularly visit Singh’s Chinese stall. Police are still not sure about the reason for the murder, but they are sure that the accused Singh had pushed Seemi from the 15-storey apartment.
The CCTV footage of the society has revealed that the accused took the woman to the terrace and even assaulted her (‘Cops arrest man for pushing woman off terrace,’ May 31). According to police officials, on May 24 at 6.20 am, the accused had an argument with the deceased on the premises of the society and Singh took her to the 15th floor of the building. Police also recorded the statement of the sole eyewitness, the society watchman.
A police officer said, “Singh took Seemi to the 15th floor by the lift and in five minutes, Seemi was found dead on the ground. Later, the accused Singh came to the watchman and also threatened him not to tell anyone about the incident, and told him to run away from the society.”
Inspector B S Khandade of the Charkop police said, “We arrested the accused Singh on the watchman’s statement, who had seen the incident. Singh also threatened to kill the watchman if he revealed the incident to anyone. The accused was running a Chinese stall just outside the society, and we have charged him many times earlier. We still don’t have the reason why he killed her.”
Police sources said the accused was trying to force himself on the deceased, saying that he was in love with her, but Seemi had repeatedly spurned his advances. “On the day of the incident, Singh and Seemi had an argument over the same issue. We also found a friend’s number written on a paper found in Seemi’s pocket. We are investigating the matter further,” said the source.
