The decomposed body of a bar dancer was found in Chembur yesterday. The deceased, Manju Verma (21), had been staying in Chembur for two years. According to the police, a woman called the Mumbai police control room at around 2 pm yesterday, complaining that a foul smell was emanating from a room in Indira Nagar.

Chembur police reached the spot, opened the locked room with the help of the fire brigade, and found the rotting corpse. Verma’s parents and her brother had also reached the spot. They told the police they’d been trying to call her for the last 4-5 days.
Since she had not answered the calls, they came to check on her. The parents told cops she used to stay in the room with her two brothers and two sisters. The siblings had gone home to Rajasthan last month to attend a wedding. Verma alone had returned on May 25.
Confirming that she worked as a bar dancer, Dnyanesh Devade, senior police inspector, Chembur police, said, “We found blood spattered on the wall near her body. We suspect it’s a murder case and will register it as one. We have taken possession of her phone and are trying to decode its password. The statements of her parents and neighbours are also being recorded.”
